Argentine outfit Lanus are expecting Celtic to make a bid for Alexandro Bernabei as the youngster emerges as the Scottish Premiership champions’ number one left-back target, as reported by the Daily Record.
First it was Callum Styles. Then Mohanad Jeahze and Erik Otieno. Celtic appear to have settled on their first-choice at last, however, with 21-year-old Bernabei moving into pole position.
And with good reason. He is, after all, the epitome of a typical Ange Postecoglou full-back, and not just because he loves to drive forward with the ball at his feet and contribute at the other end of the pitch.
Bernabei is comfortable drifting infield too – thus fitting Postecoglou’s inverted full-back system down to the ground. He is also a tireless presser, even if a tally of 12 yellow cards last season suggests that his timing could do with some work.
According to South American reporter Adriano Savalli, Celtic submitted a ‘formal offer’ for Bernabei over the weekend. One that Lanus deemed insufficient. It is understood that Celtic could make a breakthrough, however, if they are willing to make an improved bid between £2.5 million and around £3.75m.
Will Celtic lure Alexandro Bernabei away from Lanus?

Per the Daily Record, Lanus expect Bernabei to pack his bags and head across the Atlantic at some point in the near future. What’s more, they are braced for a new bid from Parkhead.
Bernabei, who stands at 5ft 7ins and has been capped by Argentina at youth level, has been left out of the Lanus squad for tonight’s Argentine league clash with Atletico Tucaman. It is not exactly certain why, with some suggesting his omission is down to ‘personal’ reasons. Others believe Bernabei simply lacks match sharpness after missing a couple of training sessions.
Title-holders Celtic completed their first signing of the summer last week. Cameron Carter-Vickers turned his Tottenham Hotspur loan deal into a permanent transfer to the tune of around £6 million.
