Leeds United took Ashton Hall on a trial last season, but he has now joined the Premier League newbies.
Matlock Town have confirmed on their official website that former Leeds United trialist Ashton Hall has joined Sheffield United this summer.
Hall was one of a number of non-league starlets tipped to make exciting moves last season. And for a little while, it appeared that the defender may prove to be Elland Road-bound.
Matlock have confirmed on their official website that the youngster went on trial with Leeds in February, and he subsequently moved on to the Blades for a two-week spell at Bramall Lane.
And the Northern Premier League Premier Division side have now announced that Hall has joined Chris Wilder’s side, with the top flight newbies paying a compensation fee to get a deal done.
Will Leeds rue missing out on Hall?
It is not clear whether Leeds decided not to sign Hall, or whether he chose to head elsewhere before taking the opportunity try his luck with Sheffield United. But his move to Bramall Lane suggests that he is definitely one player to keep an eye on in the coming years.
Leeds have produced and nurtured some fantastic prospects in recent years, including some signed from non-league clubs.
It is obviously too soon to know whether Hall would have been able to follow in the footsteps of the vast number of under-23 prospects who have broken into or got their chance in the Leeds first-team. But his Premier League switch hints that the Whites may rue not landing the defender when they seemingly had the chance.
