Argentine side Club Lanus have posted a statement overnight confirming the transfer of Alexandro Bernabei to Celtic – and have explained that they will retain a 10% sell-on clause in the £3.75million deal.
The 21-year-old left-back has been strongly linked with a move to Celtic over the past few weeks and it now seems a transfer is imminent. Lanus have confirmed as much, thanking Bernabei for his time with the Argentine side.
Despite his tender age, Bernabei has come through the ranks at Lanus to clock up 87 senior appearances – having a hand in 15 goals. The defender has also earned caps for Argentina’s Under-23 side.
Now, Lanus confirm that the left-back has agreed to join Celtic. The Record report that a deal is worth £3.75million, while Lanus state that they will boast a 10% sell-on clause from any future transfer fee.
Translation: “Through this, we communicate the transfer of Bernabei to Celtic. 10% of the player’s file will be held by Lanús. With our shirt, Bernabei played 88 matches and scored five goals, become part of Argentina’s youth categories.”

It finally sees Celtic bring in a left-back, after failing to do so last summer. Greg Taylor has enjoyed the best 12 months of his Celtic career. But he is hardly seen as the long-term answer in that position.
Since Kieran Tierney’s departure, Boli Bolingoli also came in but turned out to be an expensive flop. Now, Bernabei will look to fill those rather large shoes in Glasgow’s green and white. He certainly has plenty of potential.
He might need time to adapt to the tempo and physicality of Scottish football. However, in terms of technical ability and attacking contribution, Bernabei has it in abundance. It looks like an exciting signing for the Hoops.
