Manchester United’s summer business is being held up by a group of players the club can’t seem to move, and the effects are starting to show.

Of those five, Garnacho was probably expected to bring in the most cash. But how United handled his situation didn’t help matters.

It got even trickier when Garnacho said he wanted to stay in the Premier League. That, combined with his price tag and existing rivalries, shrunk his options down to just a couple of realistic bidders.

And now, one of those remaining possibilities has just been completely ruled out, closing another door for him this summer.

Fewer transfer options remain for Alejandro Garnacho

Unlike Marcus Rashford, who has been very clear about wanting Barcelona and nothing else, Garnacho has handled things differently. He’s made it known that he prefers a Premier League move but hasn’t shut the door on other opportunities, especially in Europe.

One of those possibilities was Napoli. The Italian club had shown real interest back in January and appeared ready to revisit the deal this summer. Scott McTominay’s success there since leaving Old Trafford likely played a part in their continued interest.

But talks fell apart in January because Garnacho was becoming important to Ruben Amorim, and the price tag was too high for Napoli to consider at the time.

If those were the stumbling blocks before, Napoli have decided not to get involved again. Garnacho’s preference for staying in England had already cooled their interest, and now they’ve moved on completely.

The Italian side have filled the role by bringing in Noa Lang from PSV for around £25m, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. That move closes off another potential destination for Garnacho as he looks for his next step away from Manchester United.

Garnacho running out of time to make a decision

It’s become something of a pattern with the players Manchester United are trying to move on – there’s a real reluctance to accept how things stand.

While Antony at least has some interest from Real Betis, even if they’re not exactly flush with cash, Garnacho, Rashford, and Sancho could be in for a bit of a shock.

None of them is really in a position to call the shots on their next move. Recent form and off-field issues haven’t helped their cases either.

Napoli’s quick decision to walk away from Garnacho should serve as a warning sign. But given his track record, it’s hard to say if he’ll take notice this time around either.
