FC Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany is to meet Ousmane Dembele’s agent over a potential new contract after a sensational run of form for the reported Newcastle United target.
According to Foot Mercato, the La Liga official has landed in Morocco to meet with Dembele’s representative Moussa Sissoko (not that one) to discuss a new deal for Dembele, who has been one of the in-form players in Europe this year.
Dembele has flourished in La Liga since winning Xavi Hernandez’s trust, with the winger bagging an outstanding eight assists in just seven league games, including two in a historic 4-0 El Clasico win.
With his contract expiring this summer, interest in Dembele is hotting up, with Newcastle just one of the clubs interested in the £287,000-a-week attacker. But now, Barcelona are seemingly putting plans into motion to sign the winger down to a new contract.
Indeed, Dembele has started Barcelona’s last four La Liga matches, and with his form showing no sign of letting up, it makes sense why the Catalan side are keen to tie the Frenchman down to a new contract, especially if they can reduce his weekly wage.
As per the report, though, PSG are leading Newcastle for Dembele’s signature, though the forward is more open to remaining with Barcelona based on his performances in recent weeks, which could see Xavi once again get his way with the 24-year-old.
Newcastle now look set to lose Dembele race to Barcelona amid contract talks

Given Dembele’s time at Barcelona before his most recent performances, it’s not ridiculous to suggest that the winger’s form in 2022 has been career-changing for the wide player, with talk of a departure from the Camp Nou now evolving into staying and becoming a key member of the squad.
Whilst Dembele’s form has been one to enjoy for many neutrals, Newcastle will feel likely they now have no chance of landing the Frenchman, especially with Barcelona already in talks to sign the winger down to a new contract.
