The Rangers winger Jordan Jones is unlikely to join one of his former clubs ahead of next month’s transfer deadline, according to their assistant manager.

Jones has been linked with moves to English sides Queens Park Rangers, Preston North End, Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough, whose academy he came through, after falling out of favour at Rangers.

According to The Scottish Sun, Steven Gerrard’s team have ‘made it clear they will not be hard to deal with’ over the 25-year-old, and will allow him to leave for less than £1 million.

But when asked about Middlesbrough’s interest in Jones, who only joined Rangers from Kilmarnock last summer, Kevin Blackwell told The Teesside Gazette: “There’s names thrown at us every week like you would not believe.

“I asked the gaffer (Neil Warnock) about one the other week. I said, ‘Did you know we’re reported to be in for him?’ And he said, ‘Who is he?’

“I leave the transfer stuff to the two Neils (Warnock and Bausor, the Boro chief executive) and the chairman (Steve Gibson).

“I’ve had it as a manager and I know how hard getting players over the line is, and that’s what made me go grey!”

Jones has yet to appear in any of Rangers’ games this season, and has been named in the squad just twice.

He only featured on 15 occasions throughout the whole of last term, which was marred by injury and his sending off against Celtic.
