Arsenal were one of the sides interested in an exciting winger this summer according to a Turkish club’s chief.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been frustrated in their pursuit of some of their top targets including in the striker department and indeed the midfield.

Benjamin Sesko and Martin Zubimendi were understood to be the Gunners’ top targets for the key roles they wanted addressing this summer but it looks like they will end up with neither.

The Gunners are also seemingly getting frustrated in their attempts to sign Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori and it now appears the North London club have missed out on another target.

Club chief reveals Arsenal were in talks with winger

Just as it appeared that the start of Arsenal’s summer could not get more frustrating, Turkish winger Oguz Aydin was reportedly a target for the Gunners.

This week the 23-year-old attacker signed for Fenerbahce from Bucaspor as Jose Mourinho looks to add to his squad.

In the Turkish Super Lig, Aydin scored 13 goals and provided eight assists for Bucaspor and there is no wonder that top clubs were keen on the winger.

Mourinho’s side have won the race for the winger but Bucaspor’s club president Cihan Aktas has claimed that the Gunners were interested in the 23-year-old.

This week the 23-year-old attacker signed for Fenerbahce from Bucaspor as Jose Mourinho looks to add to his squad.

“Oğuz is a player who takes the stage at unexpected moments and wins matches,” Aktas told Hurriyet. “Two Italian clubs and Arsenal were after him. Galatasaray also wanted him, but when Ali Koç stepped in, he became a Fenerbahce player,” said the Bucaspor president.

Arsenal do not need another winger this summer

As mentioned, the Gunners have been frustrated this summer but missing out on 13-goal Aydin should not be a major issue for the North London club.

A new winger, however, should not be one of the club’s biggest priorities considering the quality they have out wide.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are the starting wide players and they provide more than enough quality for the Gunners to compete.

They also have Leandro Trossard and Reiss Nelson as back ups, although the Englishman may well be on his way out of the club this summer, the need for Aydin is certainly not that pressing.
