Sol Bamba celebrates after scoring the first goal for Leeds United
Leeds United have confirmed that Ivorian defender and club captain Sol Bamba has left the club by mutual consent, with personal reasons cited.
A club statement on the official Leeds United website reads:
Leeds United can confirm that defender Sol Bamba has left the club by mutual consent due to personal reasons.
The Club would like to thank Sol for his contribution throughout his time here and wish him the very best of luck for the future.
Whilst Bamba’s departure was expected prior to the deadline closing last night, the manner in which he has now left is undoubtedly a shocker.
Leeds United’s Sol Bamba celebrates scoring his sides first goal
The central defender has clearly slipped down the pecking order at Leeds after an indifferent start to the season under Garry Monk.
Kyle Bartley, Liam Cooper and new signing Pontus Jansson would all now appear to be ahead of him in the centre-back department and it was reported yesterday that Leeds were open to offers for the player.
When he originally signed for the club on loan from Palermo the centre-back put in a string of excellent performances for Leeds which made fans at the club ecstatic when he signed permanently.
He was also very popular for his open and honest interviews off the pitch, in which he would often criticise the controversial Leeds owner Massimo Cellino.
But Bamba is no more and Leeds will be hoping the dressing room is not impacted by his departure.
