Club Brugge manager Carl Hoefkens has admitted that rumoured Leeds United target Noa Lang suffered a hamstring injury last night in a 4-1 loss to Sint-Truidense.

Speaking to Voetbal Nieuws, the Belgian Pro League coach revealed that the winger was taken off after suffering a hamstring injury as Brugge were eliminated from the Belgian Cup, with Land scoring the opening goal before coming off with a hamstring problem.

Hoefkens said about Lang’s injury last night: “I’m hopeful about Noa Lang, but we will have to see in the coming days. I thought he played sharply, but he suffered from his hamstring which prevented him from continuing. We have to hope it’s not too serious.”

Journalist Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport that Lang is a target for Leeds and that a bid could soon be on its way from the Yorkshire club for the Netherlands international, with Jeunes Footeux reporting that the attacker could be worth as much as £35m in January.

However, this latest injury setback could rule out any chance Lang has of leaving Brugge next month, with interested clubs unlikely to move for a player who could be out for some time with a recently-acquired hamstring issue.

Indeed, for Leeds, the blow could be damaging for Jesse Marsch’s transfer plans, with the American coach eager to add more attacking options to the Elland Road side in January, with Lang arguably the perfect option for the Whites ahead of the second half of the season.

January is shaping up to be a massive month for Leeds, with the Premier League side eager to add to their squad and to fully distance themselves from the bottom three of the table. And signing Lang would have helped massively given the winger’s quality.

But, as we now know, the winger could be unavailable to move in January if the injury proves to be bad enough, with Leeds’ medical team likely to put off a transfer if Lang’s hamstring problem is something that could worsen over the course of 2023.
