Is Hadi Sacko’s arrival at Leeds United a precursor for another key man’s return?

On Friday Leeds United announced the permanent signing of Hadi Sacko.

The 23-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Whites following a season-long loan from Sporting Lisbon last term.

But is there a bigger implication which Leeds fans might have missed?

The Yorkshire club have no manager at the moment following Garry Monk’s shock resignation last week.

And with Sacko costing a reported £2 million (France Football), it seems odd that such an investment could have been made without the blessing of Monk’s successor.

Unless of course Leeds’ next manager did approve the signing.

Pep Clotet was Monk’s assistant at Elland Road last season and is now the favourite to replace his friend, whom he also worked with at Swansea City.

It is entirely possible that the Spaniard is set to take the reins at Leeds and simply sanctioned the deal before the appointment is official.

If that is the case then the announcement isn’t imminent after the 40-year-old revealed to his Twitter followers on Friday that he is in Italy.

On the other hand, it is also possible that Sacko’s arrival was the work of United’s Director of Football Victor Orta, who joined from Middlesbrough last week.

But £2 million is a big investment for a player who only managed two goals and three assists in 42 appearances last term. It’s a gamble, but one perhaps taken by Clotet who would have seen Sacko up close in training over the past 11 months.
