Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested to The Liverpool Echo that Joel Matip could be available for the match against Manchester United.

Klopp has said that Matip is close to returning to full fitness, but he has made it clear that he has not decided whether or not to include him in the squad to take on United at Anfield in the Premier League this weekend.

As reported by The Liverpool Echo, the central defender has missed the last three games with an adductor issue.

Klopp told The Liverpool Echo about Matip (1:06pm, January 15, 2021): “Joel is close but does it make sense now to throw him in with one or two sessions he didn’t do yet? Today or tomorrow we haven’t done yet. We have to see. It’s not decided yet – why should we?”

Positive news for Liverpool fans

Matip’s importance in the current Liverpool team cannot be understated, especially with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez out injured.

The 29-year-old is a very experienced football and is a senior figure in the team, and he will play a big role for the defending Premier League champions in the coming weeks and months.

Even if Matip is not able to start against United on Sunday, him being part of the squad will be a massive boost in itself.

The defender returning to full fitness and able to start games on a regular basis soon is news that Liverpool fans will surely welcome.
