Clive Allen has told Tottenham Hotspur’s official website that he expects Fernando Llorente to prove himself a “fantastic acquisition” this season.

The 32-year-old sealed a £12 million move to Tottenham from Swansea City on deadline day last week.

In doing so, the Spain international, who has 24 caps, will provide back-up to star striker Harry Kane, who has won the Golden Boot in England over the past two seasons.

Nevertheless, Llorente, who has also had spells with Juventus, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao, will likely do a better job of covering Kane than Vincent Jansson did last season, the Dutchman scoring twice from open play in 38 games across all competitions.

And legendary Spurs hitman Allen has told the club’s official website that Llorente – who scored 15 Premier League goals in 33 games last season – is a “perfect fit” for Tottenham.

“I believe Fernando Llorente is a fantastic acquisition for the Club, an experienced player who has been there and done it and I think he’s the perfect fit, I really do.

“It will be competition for Harry, who in turn has the character to want to keep on learning, and will continue to do so throughout his career. You only have to look at Llorente and what he’s done..at every level he’s been a winner.

“I’m sure he’ll play a big part and at this stage of his career, with the experience he’s had, he will be invaluable.”

Llorente could make his debut on Saturday when Mauricio Pochettino’s side travel to Everton.
