N’Jie returned to France on a season-long basis this summer.
Loaned-out Tottenham Hotspur attacker Clinton N’Jie has discussed his exit from White Hart Lane with Ligue 1’s website and says that he is happy playing regularly at Marseille.
N’Jie endured a frustrating first season in England after joining Spurs from Lyon last summer, making just 14 appearances and missing over four months of the second half of the season through injury.
He was allowed to return to France this summer on a season-long loan deal, joining Marseille in a move which can be made permanent by the Ligue 1 club.
Since the switch, the 23-year-old has been an important regular player for the French side, scoring once in six appearances.
In an interview with Ligue 1, N’Jie admitted that he left Spurs in search of regular football and stressed that he is happy in Marseille, although he did not go as far as to confirm where he sees his future lying.
N’Jie said: “All I needed was time to play and I passed a year in Tottenham, not an easy one. So when the criticism started we had a discussion. We were just looking for the best for me.
“For the moment I am in Marseille and happy to be here, and at the end of this season we will decide what is best for me.”
N’Jie showed glimpses of his talent during his time in North London, but he was struggling to hold down a regular place in Mauricio Pochettino’s side even before his injury.
It seems unlikely that he will return to White Hart Lane, particularly given that Georges-Kevin N’Koudou’s permanent switch was part of the deal to take him to Marseille.
