Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Lyon forward Clinton N’Jie.

Exciting forward Clinton N’Jie has told the press that his desire is to remain at Lyon following intense speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, French paper Maxifoot state.

The 21-year-old rose to prominence last season after experiencing an excellent breakthrough campaign, scoring seven goals and assisting a further seven in 30 French top-flight matches.

Tottenham Hotspur were first linked to the forward via a report in The Sun last month, and the latest on the situation points to Spurs tabling a £7 million bid for his services, according to the Daily Star.

However, amid the speculation of a reported offer, N’Jie told the media that he has already met with the club’s officials about renegotiating his current deal and stated his desire is to remain with Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.

“I met the leaders to renegotiate my salary. Maybe the club has asked me to leave in the case of any interesting offers, but my desire is to stay at OL this season,” Maxifoot quoted him as saying.

A move could still happen:

While a move to Tottenham Hotspur appears unlikely given his latest comments, it would not be the first time a player has pledged his loyalty to an existing employer only to leave days later.

Ahead of his West Ham United switch, Dimitri Payet was said to be keen on remaining at Marseille, whereas most recently Fabian Delph traded Aston Villa for Manchester City, despite days earlier stating his intentions to remain in the West Midlands out of loyalty and respect.

N’Jie is ideal for Mauricio Pochettino’s men. He is young, can play out wide but is also capable of operating through the middle, potentially providing much-needed competition for centre-forward Harry Kane.
