Jordan Pickford will be looking to prove his worth when Everton play Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison has sent a stern message to Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford by telling him to ‘do your job first and foremost’ amid recent bad performances.
The 25-year-old will be preparing for his side’s home clash against Champions League-chasers Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
In Everton’s previous Premier League encounter, he made a number of mistakes which led to a high volume of criticism from his fans and pundits alike.
Speaking to Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports News (16/03/2019 1:20 pm), former Republic of Ireland striker Morrison made it clear that Pickford will ‘cost’ his side ‘more games’ if he doesn’t get his act together.
“You can have loyalty, but not 100 % loyalty,” Morrison told Soccer Saturday. “He’s going to cost them more games. He looks like the type of lad that loves getting involved in the crowd, sticking his tongue out and being cheeky.
“But do your job first and foremost. I rate him. I think he’s a top goalkeeper. At the moment, he’s not playing well. I think Tom Heaton is pushing him really well for that England number one jersey.”
During large parts of his time at Goodison Park, Pickford has proved his worth on a number of occasions, but during this campaign, he has produced a number of iffy performances.
It cost his team points against Newcastle last time out and the Everton supporters will be hoping for a better display when Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea visit Merseyside.
After this encounter, domestic football will take a back step with the international football taking centre stage. Pickford, who was England’s number one goalkeeper at last summer’s World Cup, has been called up by Gareth Southgate.
Despite his troubles at club level, Southgate has proven in the past, with his team and squad selection, that he does remain loyal to his players who are out of form.
