Clinton Morrison believes that Sunderland’s Aiden McGeady could still play in the Premier League.
Clinton Morrison told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (broadcast on 22/4 from 14:00) that he believes that Sunderland winger Aiden McGeady is still good enough to play in the Premier League and he is the best player in League One.
McGeady has enjoyed an excellent campaign at the Stadium of Light. He is the one Sunderland player to have reached double figures for league goals this term, having found the back of the net 11 times for Jack Ross’ men. There has also only been one player to have contributed more assists.
He will be one of the key players that Ross will be looking to to help Sunderland get over the line in the promotion race. And Morrison suggested that former Everton wide-man McGeady could still cut it at the highest level.
“I think they’ve got the most outstanding player, in my opinion, in that league in Aiden McGeady,” he told Sky Sports. “I played with him for Ireland. I don’t know how this kid is playing at that level. And that’s not being disrespectful to League One. He’s so talented, he could even go and play in the Premier League.”
Sunderland’s promotion hopes are no longer in their own hands after they drew 1-1 with Peterborough on Monday. Ross’ men now find themselves four points back of the top two with a game in hand. And with their next fixture seeing them face third place Portsmouth, there is a fantastic opportunity to get back into the mix.
But having won one of their last four games, it appears that the Black Cats are going to need an upturn in form to get them across the line or give them some momentum heading into the play-offs.
