Clinton Morrison has claimed that Newcastle United transfer target, Eberechi Eze, is an ‘exceptional talent’ and someone who was going to be in the England squad before Euro 2020.

The former striker pointed out that the Crystal Palace star getting injured meant that he couldn’t be named in the England squad ahead of the Euros, before it was cut down by Gareth Southgate.

Either way, a player like Eze, who came through the ranks at Queens Park Rangers in the Championship, has taken life to the Premier League like a duck to water.

That’s probably why the big pockets of Newcastle are trying to lure his ball-carrying abilities to St James’ Park after failing to bring him to the club in January.

Ex-Palace man, Morrison, has seen him up, close and personal and he raved about how good Eze is, as he told Premier League Productions (25/04/22 at 7:25 pm).

“He was going to be in the England squad,” said Morrison. “He was named in that 25-30 England squad, that’s how good he is.

“But he’s an exceptional young talent and he has got the world at his feet – he is slowly getting back to form and he is an exciting young player.

“There were big clubs watching Eze in the summer. They do say a lot of big clubs are still watching him.”

Come the summer transfer window, it’s going to be interesting whose door Newcastle will knock on because they will be the main event.

Whilst the Magpies are ahead of Palace in the Premier League table, over the last few seasons, they have been in and around teams like the London club.

Therefore, will Newcastle make those around them, below them and just above them weaker before they can really challenge those right at the top?

The aim is to get right to the top, but that will take time, so in the meantime, it’s going to be interesting who this Saudi-led ownership will try to sign.
