Glasgow Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday is set for an Ibrox return.

Clint Hill has told The Record that Andy Halliday will be “absolutely buzzing” to be back at Rangers, adding that he was surprised the midfielder didn’t join an English side on loan.
The Ibrox club cancelled his season-long loan spell with Gabala in Azerbaijan and the Scottish midfielder is set to reunite with his old team-mates.
It was Pedro Caixinha’s decision to ship him off on loan but it remains to be seen what Graeme Murty – who has replaced Caixinha in the short term – thinks of him.

The 26-year-old, signed by Mark Warburton in 2015, is a boyhood Rangers fan, and former Premier League centre-back Hill, who played alongside Halliday last season at Ibrox, says that it would have devastated him to hear that he was leaving in the first place.
“It would have hurt Andy being told he was surplus to requirements. Listen, it hurt me and a few players so imagine how he felt given his affection for the club,” he told The Record.

“To see him go out to Azerbaijan as well was a bit different. I thought he would have gone to England.
“But it must have been some experience for him and I’m sure he’d have learned from his short time there but he’ll be absolutely buzzing to get back.”
Halliday has plenty of competition in midfield, with the likes of Ryan Jack, Graham Dorrans and Jason Holt, but hopefully for his sake that stint in Azerbaijan reinvigorated his passion for the cause Rangers fans might well see a hungrier player as a result.
Murty’s side don’t have a competitive game until January 21, when they travel to Fraserburgh for a Scottish Cup clash.
