Clint Hil left Rangers at the end of the 2016-17 campaign after his contract at Ibrox had expired.

Former Rangers defender Clint Hill has told fans on Twitter that the hardest player to mark during training sessions at Auchenhowie was winger Barrie McKay.

Hill, 39, has left the club after former manager Pedro Caixinha decided not to offer the former QPR ace a new deal, which has now seen the veteran defender join League Two outfit Carlisle United.

Barrie McKay of Rangers runs with the ball during the Scottish Cup Quarter final match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The left-footed defender was a hit in Glasgow, making 32 appearances for Rangers in all competitions and even finding the back of the net six times from defence – including a tap-in against Celtic to draw 1-1 in March.

Replying to a fan on his personal Twitter account, the former Gers ace claimed that McKay was “the hardest to mark in training”.

McKay, 22, sprung onto the scene last term with an excellent campaign at Ibrox that was also marred with controversy, as he and former boss Caixinha clashed over his contract.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is seen during the Betfred League Cup Semi Final between Rangers and Motherwell at Hampden Park on October 22, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Scoring six goals and adding 11 assists, McKay was eventually offloaded by Caixinha to Championship side Nottingham Forest where the one-time Scotland international has continued to thrive under former Gers boss Mark Warburton.

Assist machine McKay has shown Rangers fans just what they are missing at the County Ground, with four goals of his own as well as being the architect of another seven strikes in just 15 matches.
