Mark Warburton’s Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers may not win a popularity contest.
Speaking to Rangers TV, Clint Hill has acknowledged that not many people like him and his Gers team-mates.
The 37-year-old defender joined Rangers on a one-year deal in the summer after a lengthy career in the Premier League and Championship down South.
Consequently, Hill, who spent six years at QPR, has been somewhat sheltered from the vitriol that can be directed at certain teams in Scotland.
Mark Warburton’s side are certainly one of them. In addition to the mutual hostility with Celtic, Rangers also have a frosty relationship with Aberdeen and the atmosphere at Pittodrie last month proved it.
Asked by Rangers TV about the volatile atmosphere at away games, Hill said: “Not many people like us, do they? I’ve only played a few away games, but they [opposition fans] definitely made that clear.
“But I thrive off that. It’s been good to watch, some of the faces and [hear] some of the language that gets thrown at us.”
Rangers are fifth in the Scottish Premiership after what’s been a difficult return to the big time, and their two defeats will have hurt them for different reasons.
Warburton’s side went down 5-1 at Celtic in a very sobering afternoon at Parkhead last month, before losing 2-1 at Aberdeen in a result which will have stung due to injustice rather than anything else.
The Dons won it late on through a James Maddison free kick, though the foul probably should not have been awarded in the first place. The Gers were the better side on the day, but it counted for little in the end.
