Clint Hill’s spell at Ibrox could end after just one year with his current Glasgow Rangers contract set to expire this summer.

Clint Hill has told Rangers’ official YouTube account that he would jump at the chance to stay at Ibrox for another year, but admitted that he does not even know whether the club have any plans regarding a new contract.

Hill was a somewhat surprise addition to the Gers squad last summer, but it is fair to say that he has certainly made the most of the opportunity, arguably proving to be one of the side’s best players from the campaign.

However, his first season with the Light Blues may still prove to be his last with the 38-year-old’s contract set to expire in the summer. But he disclosed how he would respond if he was given the chance to extend his stay.

“If I could stay I’d like to, I don’t know what the situation is or if there is one,” he told the club’s official YouTube account.

“If the opportunity does come then brilliant, if not then I would have enjoyed every minute of this football club – it has been a great honour to play here, it really has.”

While Pedro Caixinha may be hesitant about handing Hill a new deal – especially as he was not the manager who brought him to the club in the first place – it would surely make sense for the Gers to keep the veteran around for another year.

The club are clearly going to have to make significant changes over the coming months if they hope to close the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership, but there is still a chance that those changes will not reap immediate rewards.

So having players such as Hill in the ranks, who can be relied upon to offer some consistency and reliability, could be crucial during this period of continued transition for Rangers.
