He moved to 160 goals, edging ahead of Cliff Jones, who he tied on 159 last week against Tranmere.
Kane is fast closing in on club legend Jimmy Greaves’ record of 266 goals for the club.
Next in his sights in Martin Chivers (174) and Bobby Smith (208).
Cliff Jones commented on Twitter immediately after Kane surpassed him, congratulating the current Tottenham star.
He also said that having played with all three of the men above Kane, he was confident the World Cup golden boot winner will end up as number one.
It’s a message which will make Kane proud, and spur him on with his quest to reach the top.
Having such an esteemed personal target to aim for keeps Kane invested and removes any doubt that Kane could leave the club for a new challenge.
If he did, he would leave his believers like Cliff Jones greatly disappointed.
