Derby County boss Paul Clement has provided an update in terms of how he’s viewing transfers at the club.
Derby County boss Paul Clement has told the Derby Telegraph that he’s being fair to all of his players as he mulls over further transfers at the club before the close of the current window.
Derby have already done some of the best business in the Championship this summer, with Clement giving the squad a very strong outlook as they prepare for the challenge of trying to win promotion into the Premier League.
Clement is keeping his cards close to his chest in terms of possible names that could come and go, but he’s offered up a very clear message to any Derby player who may fear for his place in the squad.
“The window does not close until the end of August and so there is time for a couple of ins, possibly, but also some movement out. We will have to see,” he told the Derby Telegraph.
“We are being fair to everybody, it is a clean slate. The players don’t know me and I really don’t know them.”
The theme in Derby’s signings
The main theme in the players that Clement has attracted to Derby so far is that they have played at a higher level and have Premier League experience.
Pre-season performances need to be taken with a pinch of salt because they are more about raising fitness levels than results.
Over the course of a long season, Derby do have the quality and experience in their squad to be able to battle through the difficult spells, with players who know all about the pressures and demands of playing football in England’s top flight.
What’s going to be interesting is whether they can find their best form early, giving Derby a good start in the Championship, which puts them ahead of their main rivals.
