Michael Bridge told Sky Sports News (16/08/21 at 1:10 pm) that Harry Kane wasn’t involved for Tottenham against Manchester City on Sunday because he’s not going to be ‘fully integrated’ into the squad until this week.

There was a heated debate about Kane’s situation on Super Sunday, after Tottenham beat Man City, between Sky Sports pundits Micah Richards, Gary Neville and Graeme Souness.

A lot of it stemmed around Kane not being involved in the game yesterday and perhaps indicating that he could be leaving Spurs for the Premier League champions, as Gary Neville suggested on Sky Sports.

But Sky reporter Bridge has made the situation ‘clearer’ and why it was impossible for Kane to feature yesterday.

“Super Sunday pundits in disagreement ‘why’s Harry Kane not on the bench against Manchester City?’,” said Bridge. “We might have the answer for you.

“He’s not going to be fully integrated into the squad we are told until this week, maybe tomorrow (Tuesday).

“The training he did on Thursday and Friday was light training with the fitness coaches after his day five PCR test on Thursday. He got a negative result, of course.

“But the training Spurs did on Friday and Saturday was purely match-based. Tactical-based on that Man City game, so it might make a lot more sense now. It might become more clearer to people now as to why Kane wasn’t on that bench.”

Nuno Espirito Santo hasn’t been in the Tottenham job for much long, but he has already had to deal with a lot of drama.

But the former Wolves boss has remained calm throughout and the performance by Spurs against Man City is proof of what he can do in a difficult situation.

If Kane stays on board then perhaps, albeit an outside chance, Spurs fans can dream of the Champions League again.

But getting back into the Europa League would in itself indicate at the club moving forward if Nuno can deliver that this season.
