Manolo Gabbiadini scored in his only appearance at St Mary’s so far
Manolo Gabbiadini will be back in the Southampton squad for their match against Manchester City this weekend, manager Claude Puel has said.
“He is likely to come back into the squad and we will see if he can start, or perhaps come on in the second-half of the game,” Puel told the club’s website.
The Italian has not played since picking up a groin injury in the Saints’ 2-1 defeat at Tottenham last month, missing three Premier League games.
However the side has actually done well in his absence, going unbeaten and picking up seven points from a possible nine.
Before limping off at White Hart Lane, Gabbiadini had scored in each of his first four Southampton games, bagging six goals in total including a brace in the EFL Cup Final.
Charlie Austin, Southampton’s top scorer in all competitions, is still out
His return will certainly boost Southampton’s attacking options as other strikers Jay Rodriguez and Shane Long have scored just seven Premier League goals between them while Charlie Austin is still injured.
He sustained a shoulder problem back in December and still isn’t back to full fitness, with Puel warning that he will have to play for the under-23 side before he can make his way back into the first team.
Steven Davis, who missed the win at West Brom last weekend, is also fit again.
