Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Leicester City ace James Maddison.
Leicester City boss Claude Puel has told Sky Sports that seeing playmaker James Maddison linked with Tottenham Hotspur is a ‘good feeling’.
Leicester travel to Wembley Stadium today in order to take on Spurs, as they hope to end Tottenham’s run of three Premier League wins in a row.
Even outside of the transfer window, there are already rumours swirling about potential summer deals, and one Leicester ace has been linked with Tottenham.
The Times reported just days ago that Tottenham are keen on Leicester ace Maddison, and could launch a move for the playmaker at the end of the season.
Maddison would seemingly be wanted as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen should Spurs fail to agree a new deal with their Danish maestro.
Maddison, 22, is in his first Premier League season having joined Leicester from Norwich City last summer, and he has hit five goals and four assists for the Foxes.
It’s no great surprise that Maddison, a regular threat from set pieces, would be wanted as a potential Eriksen replacement, and Leicester boss Puel has offered his take ahead of today’s game.
Puel suggested that the rumour is a ‘good feeling’ for Leicester as it means players are impressing and developing at the King Power Stadium, but called on Maddison to find his ‘clinical edge’ again as he looks to learn in the top flight.
“If we played with a poor performance, without the possibility to develop our players, perhaps other teams wouldn’t be interested in our players,” said Puel. “A lot of our players develop interest from other clubs but this is a good feeling and they have time to continue their work and develop themselves. Leicester is a good club and we showed the project we are trying to put in place, and it’s a good feeling to have this feedback from opponents in football. This player (Maddison) just started their career in the Premier League and now they have to keep their focus on their game. For a young player, we have to find good consistency.”
“Maddison and other young players – it’s not finished for them yet – they didn’t have consistency or a clinical edge all the time. They all need to make progress and we will be passionate with these players. Maddison needs to find consistency and impact during all the games. It’s normal. He’s a young player. He knows a lot of good things since the beginning of the season – he was clinical then. He needs to find this good clinical edge again and more impact in our games,” he added.
