From one Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper to another…
After conceding five against Arsenal in the North London derby, not that he had much chance with any of the goals, Hugo Lloris would have been keen to get back between the sticks and show what he can do.
He did just that last night, putting in a superb performance in a 0-0 draw with Lazio in the Europa League clash.
Lloris made five saves as Lazio found him impossible to break down. It was an impressive performance, arguably his best for the club so far, showing just why the club parted with all that money to sign him on deadline day.
His competitor for the number one jersey, Brad Friedel was also impressed, and said so publicly via his Twitter account.
Friedel’s comments were praised by Spurs fans on the site, who described him as a ‘top professional’ a ‘gentleman’ and an ‘inspiration.’
The battle for the number one jersey will no doubt go on. Blackburn Rovers were reported to have made an approach to take the American on loan yesterday but it was wisely rebuffed by the club.
Whether there will be movement in January will no doubt be the subject of speculation, but for now, Spurs look to have healthy competition, and despite the meddling of a certain French manager, the situation is coming good.
