West Ham fans have reacted on Twitter to the rumours they have had a bid rejected for West Brom goalkeeper, Sam Johnstone.

The Athletic have claimed that a bid ‘below £10 million’ was made by West Ham for the English goalkeeper.

And understandably so, the Baggies have flat out rejected the opening offer that was put on the table by the London club for the player who has 37-Premier League caps to his name.

West Ham fans have offered a mixed reaction to the news, with some making it clear that they would prefer to sign PSG’s Alphonse Areola instead.

He was on-loan at Fulham last season but has since returned to Paris, with the Hammers also looking at his talents.

With Łukasz Fabiański recently celebrating his 36th birthday, it’s understandable that the Hammers are looking for a new number one.

Both Johnstone and Areola, who were both relegated last season but were still standout performers, would be top purchases by the club if they can get either of them through the door.

But it seems as though West Ham aren’t going in on signing either player, which is either clever tactics or those in the East London boardroom being their typical selves.

The West Ham board aren’t known to splash their cash and it seems as though they will be taking the same route even though they are in Europe now.

Here is a selection of West Ham fans reacting to the Johnstone rumours:
