The Brentford striker will hope to maintain his impressive record against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
Lasse Vibe may have put Nottingham Forest to the sword with a goalscoring display as Brentford triumphed 3-0 at the City Ground last season but that does not mean the Danish international sees Tuesday’s opponents as nothing more than another mid-table league rival, GetWestLondon reports.
Even spending 17 consecutive seasons outside top flight does not airbrush over the fact that Forest lifted consecutive European Cups in 1979 and 1980, inspired by the greatest manager never to manage the English national team.
Such remarkable feats aren’t easily forgotten, even if Forest are currently handing a living to Michael Mancienne.
And Vibe, who will travel to the City Ground hoping to extend Brentford’s impressive record against Forest after winning five of their last six meetings, says Forest remind him of one of his former clubs – IFK Goteborg, the only Scandinavian club to win a European trophy, lifting the UEFA Cup in 1982 and 87.
“[Forest are] like my former club – they used to play them in that era,” Vibe said in quotes reported by GetWestLondon.
“Their history inspires me but I said last year and even at Ipswich, it’s a classic club for me. It’s the same with many clubs in the league; Leeds, Derby.
“It’s a competitive league and I’m enjoying it here. There’s always a big crowd or lively ground. Last year, going there we won and I scored in it.”
Now, we aren’t going to get into the argument of who can lay claim to being the division’s ‘biggest club’. But it’s clear that Forest deserve to be in the discussion.
