Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has been lauded by Richard Keys following footage from St James’s Park.
The Magpies played out a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth in the Premier League earlier today.
Prior to kickoff, silence fell around St James’s Park in a tribute to the Queen, who passed away at the age of 96 last week.
The Newcastle boss, who earns £57,000 per week in the North East, donned a suit for the tribute but reappeared quickly in his usual tracksuit.
And Keys has lauded the former Cherries manager for making such an effort.
He wrote on Twitter:
The former Sky Sports presenter has often spoken ill of both Newcastle and indeed their current manager, whose appointment was derided by Keys last year.
On his personal blog last November, the BeIN Sport man wrote: “It’s a warm welcome back Eddie as well. And I genuinely wish Howe good luck – he too is going to need it. Howe is apparently already a much better manager than he was when he took Bournemouth down. Than he was when he didn’t take to managing in Burnley (Newcastle is a bit further north than Turf Moor) or when he didn’t fancy a crack at Celtic. Or the previous regime at Newcastle chose to ignore him time and again. So that’s all good news.”
Keys often holds grudges, which is why he regularly lambasts Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta for trivial matters like venturing a yard outside his technical area.
However, credit where it’s due for highlighting Howe’s gesture today.
