Liverpool fans on Twitter praised Kalvin Phillips’ performance despite his Leeds side falling to a 3-0 defeat on Sunday at Elland Road.
During these past 12 or so months, Phillips’ game in Leeds and England colours has risen to serious heights, and it’s still going.
He is a key member of this Leeds team and is become even more important for Gareth Southgate on the international stage.
Whilst Liverpool supporters were mightily impressed with what they saw from their players, they also liked the high-quality performances from Phillips.
Sitting in as a single pivot, Phillips, 25, pings passes like he has a Playstation controller in his hands and he is showing that he is becoming more of a leader in his deep-lying playmaker role.
Jurgen Klopp loves an industrious player, with great defensive awareness and an engine that motors on like it is running on endless amounts of petrol.
Phillips has just that to his game, added with brute strength and a no-nonsense style if he needs to change it up.
Liverpool fans pointed out that they think the aptly dubbed ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’ is someone who would suit Klopp’s system.
But given the number of midfield players the German has to choose from at Anfield, the Leeds supporters shouldn’t worry too much about those from Merseyside knocking for his talents anytime soon.
