England’s senior side may have squeezed their way to a 1-0 win over Lithuania this evening, but their Under-17’s were in scintillating form earlier in the day.
Harry Kane’s penalty gave England all three points in Vilnius to end their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign, and if fans were a little underwhelmed with the performance of Gareth Southgate’s side, then they will have loved the Under-17 display.
Steve Cooper’s men kicked off their Under-17 World Cup campaign in Kolkata earlier today, taking on a Chile side billed as being a potentially tricky opponent – but England completely obliterated them.
Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi gave England the lead after just five minutes, before Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund scored twice in nine second-half minutes to make it 3-0 to England.
Manchester United’s Angel Gomes then came off the bench to add a late fourth, giving England the ideal start to their World Cup campaign in India, with a host of youngsters impressing.
Having supplied five of the current England squad – Kieran Trippier, Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Dele Alli and Harry Kane – it’s no surprise that Tottenham also had representation in the England Under-17 side, with right back Timothy Eyoma and midfielder Tashan Oakley-Boothe both starting.
Many fans on Twitter were impressed with Oakley-Boothe’s display, suggesting that he looks to be a ‘class act’ and a potentially special player, praising him for an outstanding display.
Defender Eyoma also caught the eye, with fans praising his physicality, calling him a ‘man amongst boys’, with general praise for his performance from right back.
