West Ham chief David Sullivan has been speaking to talkSPORT about the Hammers’ transfer dealings.

He said: ‘I can’t just go and sign two or three players the manager doesn’t want. I could quite easily tomorrow go and sign two or three players but we’d have a civil war at West Ham, because I don’t pick the players.

‘We have a manager who is a manager, not a coach; if he was a coach I could do that, but that’s not the way it works at West Ham – the managers pick the teams.

So far, the Irons haven’t signed a few face in this window.

West Ham’s only transfer outlay has been the £19.1 million spent on turning Tomas Soucek’s loan into a permanent deal.

Supporters were also angered by the departure of Grady Diangana to West Brom. Club captain Mark Noble also expressed his frustration with that deal on Twitter, posting an outburst which is yet to be deleted.

This lack of investment comes after the club only narrowly avoided relegation last season, eventually finishing five points above the drop-zone after a post-lockdown run of form.

In that respect, it is worrying that no new additions have been made.

In fact, West Ham are arguably weaker having lost Diangana and also young right-back Jeremy Ngakia.

Tensions around the London Stadium have only risen after the Hammers lost their first two Premier League games of the campaign.

Moyes oversaw a drab 2-0 defeat to Newcastle, and then narrowly lost to Arsenal at the Emirates.

If supporters were hoping to see some signings before the deadline on October 5th, Sullivan’s comments won’t fill them with hope.

He ended his interview with talkSPORT by saying that he’s not sure if the club will sign anybody, and that he is becoming more ‘depressed’ with each passing day.

‘I cannot say for sure that we are going to sign anybody. As each day passes I am getting more depressed.’
