Cast your mind back to last summer and you’ll remember that Manchester City were desperately trying to sign Harry Kane.
The Spurs striker was right at the top of City’s list of targets, and they tried everything they could to land the England captain.
One of City’s ploys was to offer Tottenham a player-plus-cash deal for Kane, offering up the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling, Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez as elements of a part-exchange deal to get Kane from Spurs, but, perhaps surprisingly, Tottenham didn’t take the bait on any of those proposed deals.
Despite their incredible depth of talent, City didn’t have a single dispensable player that Spurs would’ve been happy to swap, along with some cash, for Kane, but that may be about to change.
Indeed, Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for a new right wing-back, and they are reportedly preparing a bid for Sporting’s Pedro Porro.

However, there is an issue in the fact that Manchester City have a buy-back clause for Porro, and according to Fabrizio Romano, they may well choose to activate it.
Although, if City do decide to bring Porro back, there isn’t much hope of him breaking into the first-team. During his first stint at the Etihad he says that Pep Guardiola never even spoke to him, while we’ve seen this exact situation play out before with Angelino who was brought back only to be swiftly sold.
With Spurs keen, City could easily buy Porro back and use him as the ammunition needed to finally negotiate a player-plus-cash deal that could see Kane end up at the Etihad as he enters the final year of his contract.
However, saying that, do City even need Kane anymore?
Erling Haaland is now firmly the main man at City, and there really isn’t space for Kane in this team as a number nine.
However, with Kane showcasing his ability to drop deep more and more, perhaps Guardiola could have another use for Kane that involved him playing alongside Haaland.
If City are still keen on a swap deal for Kane, then Porro could be the perfect bait.
