Speaking on The Overlap, Paul Scholes has been discussing which teams have the best centre-backs in the league.

Scholes was taking part in a fan debate, and a Chelsea supporters was speaking about the Blues’ title credentials, claiming that he thinks the London club have a great chance of being successful this season due to their defensive prowess.

However, the Manchester United legend disputed this claim, stating that Liverpool have the best centre-halves in the league, while he also says that both Manchester clubs have better defenders on their books.

What’s been said?

Scholes was debating the teams that have the best defenders in the league.

“I think we have three of the best centre-backs in the league at the moment, Christensen, Rudiger and Thiago Silva,” One Chelsea fan said.

“But Liverpool have got the best centre-backs. City have two great ones. United have got two really good ones. I think Chelsea have got the weakest out of the four defensively actually,” Scholes replied.

Liverpool are the top dogs

Scholes says that Liverpool have the best centre-backs in the league, and it’s hard to argue with that.

Virgil van Dijk is arguably the best defender this league has ever seen, Joe Gomez is one of the best young centre-backs in the country, while Joel Matip seems to be getting better and better every single time he steps onto the pitch.

Man City have Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones, but it’s hard to argue that their depth is as good as Liverpool’s, especially when you factor in Ibrahima Konate and Nat Phillips.
