Manchester United and Manchester City are both sad to be in the running for Porto’s French international defender Eliaquim Mangala.
United’s interest gathered momentum toward the end of last month – with reports claiming that David Moyes was seeking him as his number one replacement for Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at the heart of United’s defence.
But despite United’s interest it is Manchester City who remain favourites.
They tried to sign the player in January only for a deal to fall through.
Last night it was reported that Txiki Begiristain was on his way to Portugal to wrap up a £20 million deal for the player.
But while he was flying out, Mangala was scoring a headed goal which gave Porto a 1-0 win over Sevilla in Spain.
But despite him bagging the goal – it was the assist from a Chelsea flop that truly caught the eye.
Ricardo Quaresma had an unsuccessful six month loan spell at Chelsea in 2009 – and at the age of 30 he is getting a staggering career back on track at his former club.
