Ciaran Clark featured for Newcastle United against Reading at St. James’ Park in the Championship last month.
Newcastle United summer signing Ciaran Clark has told The Times that it was spine-tingling to play at St. James’ Park.
Clark joined Newcastle from Championship rivals Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.
According to BBC Sport, the Magpies had to pay the Villans a transfer fee of £5.1 million in order to secure the services of the 26-year-old.
The Republic of Ireland international, who can play as a defender or as a midfielder, made his competitive debut for Newcastle in the Championship game against Reading at St. James’ Park last month.
Clark has stated that it was spine-tingling to play in front of almost 50,000 Newcastle fans.
“It was spine-tingling,” Clark told The Times regarding playing for Newcastle against Reading at St. James’ Park. “It’s very different to what I’ve experienced before.
“I’ve played here in the past, but you don’t realise just how loud it is, how big, until you’re there, looking around, having a moment to soak it up. It’s so enormous.”
Newcastle won the match against Reading 4-1, summer signing Dwight Gayle scoring twice for Rafael Benitez’s side.
The Magpies have since defeated Bristol City 1-0 away from home and Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at St. James’ Park in the Championship, while also getting the better of Cheltenham Town in the second round of the EFL Cup.
The Magpies will take on Derby County away from home at the iPro Stadium in the Championship this coming Saturday.
