Newcastle United defender Ciaran Clark has taken to Twitter to celebrate his first goal for the club, one of a number of strikes by the side in what was a crazy night down in South London.

The astonishing 6-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Tuesday night was certainly something for those associated with the Magpies to revel in, after what has been a roller coaster few months at St James’s Park.

Sadly, there have often been more lows than highs over the last year, with the drop to the Championship the dominant event during Rafa Benitez’s time at the club.

But even before the Magpies went down, Benitez had steered Newcastle into an encouraging direction, and after mixed results early on in their new division, the Toon Army are well and truly a force to be reckoned with after their rout of the Hoops.

And Clark, who started the match against Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side, was delighted to net his first strike for Newcastle in just his third match for the club, as he headed in a Matt Ritchie corner early in the second half to make it 4-0.

Clark also set up teammate Grant Hanley for his own first Magpies goal, as Benitez’s side flexed their attacking muscles in the most impressive of ways.
