Everton are reportedly tracking Toulouse defender Christopher Jullien.
Marco Silva has addressed two of Everton’s problem areas at the start of the transfer window in the past week, bringing in a new winger in Richarlison and finally solving the left-back problem with Lucas Digne.
Kevin Mirallas, Nikola Vlasic and Yannick Bolasie all failed to provide the adequate standard from the left flank during 2017-18, while Cuco Martina was used at left-back despite being right-footed.
With those two problem areas solved, Silva’s attention must turn to adding a centre-back to his squad, after Ramiro Funes Mori left the club and a gap has opened up at the back.
Indeed, Michael Keane’s form was questionable last season, while Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams are not getting any younger. Mason Holgate is arguable better at right-back.
But Silva is reportedly working on two deals – one in, one out – that will prove excellent business down the line.
Ashley Williams is reportedly in talks over a move to Championship side Stoke City on loan, while the club have made an enquiry to sign Toulouse central defender Christopher Jullien, according to Les Violets.
Williams’ form has dipped since his move to Goodison Park, and he needs replacing if The Toffees are to have any chance of stemming the flow of goals at the back, a more youthful central defender must be signed.
Step forward Jullien, who at 25 years of age is emerging as one of the best central defenders in France that is yet to be poached by one of the big clubs. He wants to leave, as per the report, and could go for just £8.9million.
Landing Jullien and offloading Williams is the perfect next move for Silva.
