The Celtic defender is in confident mood ahead of this Thursday’s match away to Rennes.

Summer Celtic signing Christopher Jullien believes the Hoops can make significant progress in the UEFA Europa League this season, The Daily Record report.

Celtic kick-off their group stage campaign this Thursday in France.

Jullien sees a winning mentality in training every day and feels that his teammates are on a trophy hunt under Neil Lennon, regardless of what competition they are playing in.

When asked if his side can go far in the competition, the defender told The Daily Record: “Yes, I believe we can, absolutely.

“Since I arrived here I have seen that all the players constantly have trophies on their minds. They want to win at everything, even in training. I think this is important for our team. That gives us hope and we will see what happens.

“We will take it all game by game and see what it is, but if you were to go into the locker room right now and ask each of them what their goal was they would tell you it is to bring that trophy home.”

Incredible confidence

The comments from Jullien demonstrate just what an excellent job Neil Lennon is doing in terms of instilling belief into his players. It’s clear confidence is flowing through his dressing room.

It wasn’t so long ago that the Hoops were at a low ebb following a UEFA Champions League defeat to Cluj. In the wake of that result, nobody at the club seemed very buoyant.

The Celtic manager deserves credit for turning things around.

As for their European chances? Well that remains to be seen.

Celtic still have a lot to prove, even at UEFA Europa League level. Thursday’s test against Rennes will be a big indicator of how they might perform going forward in the competition.

If stars like Jullien can keep them defensively sound, even away from home, then the Hoops have the attacking talent that can punish many teams.

The trip to France will be fascinating to watch.
