Rangers’ hopes of signing Scotland international Christophe Berra were put to bed yesterday as his much anticipated move to former club Hearts was confirmed.
The 32-year-old left Ipswich Town this summer in order to return to Scotland and be closer to his family. He has rejoined the club he began his career with despite interest from Ibrox.

The Scotsman reported earlier this month that Rangers were keen on bringing the player to Glasgow on a free, but it seems the experienced defender always had his eye on a return home.
He confirmed as much in conversation with Hearts TV, where he then made it clear he wanted Hearts to be challenging Rangers in the league next season:

“I wanted to come back and there was only one team I really wanted to come to – that’s Hearts.
“I’m born and bred in Edinburgh, my family lives here and all my friends are from here. I’ve got a daughter up here, which is one of the main factors too. Hearts are the only club I’ve ever played for in Scotland and hopefully I can end my career here.
“We want to get to cup finals, finish as high up the league as possible and make Tynecastle a fortress again. We have got to be up there challenging with Aberdeen and Rangers.”

Berra would have been a great signing for Rangers, who are looking to improve their squad after a disappointing campaign back in the Scottish top-flight.
So to hear he is now intent on taking them another peg in the Scottish Premiership ladder will be a stake to Rangers fans who wanted the 35-cap international at Ibrox this summer.
