Rangers earned a 2-1 win away at Hearts on Sunday afternoon.
Christophe Berra was quoted by BT Sport as blasting Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, and questioned how referee Bobby Madden allowed the Colombian to get away with his style of play.
Rangers earned an excellent 2-1 win at Tynecastle to leapfrog Old Firm rivals Celtic and sit at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with the Hoops in action against Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup final.
Morelos, 22, scored his 17th goal of the season to win the match – also breaking a record of seven goals in seven consecutive league matches. However, the strike was offside according to replays.
Berra returned from a long-term hamstring injury to captain Hearts but he came up against the nuisance that is Morelos, with the two battling all afternoon at Tynecastle. He was unimpressed with the striker, and indeed referee Madden.
“I’m sure he must have eyes in the back of his head because every goal-kick, he wasn’t looking at the ball, he was looking at me,” Berra said. “I know it’s a tough job. And I like the physical battle. It doesn’t bother me. But when you do it five, six, seven times…”
Rangers are sitting pretty at the top of the table with 30 points from 14 league games – winning nine of those and only losing two to Celtic and Livingston. Celtic have a game in hand, though, sitting a point behind in second.
The Gers are next in action on Wednesday evening as they play host to Aberdeen at Ibrox, in another big match for Steven Gerrard’s men. It gives the Gers the chance to exact revenge on the Dons, who beat them 1-0 in the League Cup semi-final.
