Rangers are looking to bring Kyle Lafferty back to Ibrox.
Hearts defender Christophe Berra has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks striker Kyle Lafferty faces a difficult decision on whether or not to join Rangers.
The Gers have added ten new signings this summer, with Allan McGregor, Jon Flanagan, Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Lassana Coulibaly, Scott Arfield, Ovie Ejaria, Ryan Kent, Jamie Murphy and Umar Sadiq all arriving.
Despite that, Rangers remain in the market for more new additions, and it’s no great surprise that another striker is on Steven Gerrard’s wish list ahead of the new season.
New man Sadiq is an unknown quantity, whilst Alfredo Morelos is far too inconsistent in front of goal to be relied upon as the club’s leading striker, with a veteran of Scottish football needed to beef up Gerrard’s options.
Now, Rangers are pursuing a deal for Hearts striker Kyle Lafferty, with a £200,000 bid rejected on Friday according to Sky Sports, and the Gers may well return with a new bid in the coming days.
The Scottish Sun now report that Lafferty’s mind is made up, and that he would jump at a return to Ibrox having spent four years with the club, hitting 38 goals in 138 games before leaving for Sion in 2012.
The Northern Irishman, 30, appears to be keen on a move back to Ibrox, and teammate Christophe Berra has told The Scottish Sun that the situation and decision will be ‘difficult’ for Lafferty.
Berra noted that Lafferty has to remain professional and give his all for Hearts, adding that he went through similar speculation during his first time around with Hearts before returning to Tynecastle last summer.
“I was at Hearts first time and I got linked with moves, it is a factor. It is difficult but you need to be a strong character,” said Berra. “It will be difficult for Kyle, there is no lying there — everyone knows it.”
“It is up to Kyle to be professional and turn up each day for training and give his all. If he does that no one can fault him for that. I think he just comes and plays football. I don’t think he takes life too seriously. He just gets on with it. He will deal with it in his own way. Only time will tell what will happen,” he added.
