Leeds United were scheduled to play a friendly this weekend, but when it was cancelled their manager had them back on the training pitch.
According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen wasted little time bemoaning his side’s cancelled friendly against Ingolstadt, quickly setting up double training sessions as he continues his preparations for the new campaign.
It is the mark of the man that he did not give his players time off, instead putting his new recruits through sessions both in mid-morning and early evening over the weekend.
Christiansen will understand the importance of hitting the ground running at Elland Road, and the only way he is going to do that is if he has all his players as fit and as comfortable with each other as possible.
Leeds have been busy over the summer bringing in a number of new recruits and the trick now is to get them all playing as an effective team.
The Whites came close to a play-off place last season only to suffer a heartbreaking slump in the final few weeks of the campaign.
However, the Leeds players left behind will be desperate to use that disappointment as a catalyst for the upcoming campaign, while Christiansen’s quick-fire recruitment drive has seen some exciting and, most importantly, creative players arrive.
Leeds’ stars may have preferred to play a match this weekend, but when they look back on the summer it could be the desire not to let a single minute go to waste that makes the difference between success and another year of disappointment.
