Christiansen’s latest comments on Pennington will interest Allardyce

Matthew Pennington joined Everton on a season-long loan deal from Everton in the summer transfer window.

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has spoken highly of Everton-owned defender Matthew Pennington in his latest press conference, as quoted by Leeds Live.

In his press conference on Friday afternoon, Christiansen heaped praise on the 23-year-old central defender, who joined Championship club Leeds on a season-long loan deal from Premier League side Everton in the summer transfer window.

The former England Under-19 international has started four games and made four substitute appearances in the Championship for the Whites so far this season – a total of 479 minutes, according to WhoScored.

Leeds head coach Christiansen has spoken highly of Pennington, but he has not divulged whether or not he wants to sign the 23-year-old centre-back on a permanent contract.

“If I say no, if I said yes, that will increase the money,” said Christiansen when asked about signing Pennington on a permanent contract in Friday’s press conference, as quoted by Leeds Live. “But I am very happy with how he has done until now.

“When he played and also now when he doesn’t, in the training he’s one of the players who goes up front always with a smile, with hard work and this is to appreciate. This is what builds a good squad.”

Pennington’s current contract at Everton runs out at the end of the season, and it will be interesting to see what happens regarding his long-term future.

The Englishman has failed to make an impact at Everton, but it seems that Leeds head coach Christiansen has been impressed with him so far at Elland Road.

Perhaps Everton manager Sam Alardyce should keep an eye on Pennington as the season progresses, and the aforementioned comments from Christiansen will surely interest him.
