Christiansen has injury update on Berardi and Pennington

Leeds United duo Gaetano Berardi and Matthew Pennington suffered injuries against Bolton Wanderers in the Championship earlier this month.

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that Gaetano Berardi and Matthew Pennington will return to training after this weekend’s round of matches in the Championship.

Berardi, who can operate as a right-back or as a left-back, is out of action at the moment with a shoulder problem.

As for Pennington, who joined Leeds on a season-long loan deal from Everton in the summer transfer window and can play as a centre-back or a right-back, is currently on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

Both the 28-year-old and the 22-year-old suffered their respective injuries during Leeds’s game against Bolton Wanderers away from home at the Macron Stadium on the opening weekend of the Championship season earlier this month.

Leeds will take on Nottingham Forest away from home at the City Ground in the Championship on Saturday evening.

Christiansen does not expect the duo to play any role in the game against Forest, but the Leeds head coach has revealed that the two defenders will start training after this weekend, which is certainly good news for the fans as they will be key players in the Whites’ quest to finish in the top six of the Championship this season.

When asked for the latest situation with Pennington and Berardi, Christiansen told The Yorkshire Evening Post: “Very positive. After the weekend they will start slowly to start back with the team.”
