Tottenham bizarrely chose not to go in for James Maddison this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are reported by The Times to be concerned about Christian Eriksen’s contract situation.
The Dane has just 18 months left remaining on his deal, meaning Spurs are going to be in a tricky position next summer.
Replacing Eriksen is going to be highly difficult, so it is looking increasingly bizarre that the club did not compete to sign James Maddison in the summer.
Maddison was available from Norwich City and Leicester City won the race to sign him, paying £20 million.

The £20 million investment already looks like a bargain. The 21-year-old has three goals and two assists already this season.
The Telegraph had reported in April that Tottenham were in the mix to sign Maddison, who they scouted while he was at Coventry City before he joined Norwich.
Eriksen is no nearer to signing a new contract and Tottenham should have moved for an understudy.
Maddison would have been absolutely perfect, and could have worked alongside Eriksen with a view to one day succeeding him.
Tottenham may go on to find an even more suitable Eriksen replacement, but Maddison is already looking pretty special and for £20 million, appears to be one of the best deals of the summer.
