Tottenham Hotspur have tied the Danish international down to a new long-term deal.

The agent of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen, Martin Schoots, has been speaking to Danish newspaper BT after his client signed a new contract at White Hart Lane.

The play-maker put pen to paper on a new four-year deal on Wednesday and his representative has been quick to shoot down claims of overinflated expectations in the negotiating process.

The extract of the print edition interview has been published online and translated by Sport Witness, and in it Schoots commented on claims he demanded a considerable sum as part of the deal.

“We have read these crazy stories about what I would have asked for,” he is quoted as saying. “But that does not mean that I am obliged to correct them.

“Here the information is not necessarily just information anymore. It is gossip. It must be accepted and then we take care of the serious stuff.”

Eriksen has played 134 times for Tottenham to date, scoring 30 goals and providing 33 assists in the process.

He previously turned out 163 times for Ajax and it is worth noting that he is still only 24 with his peak years ahead of him.

Tottenham are likely to benefit from those years now he has committed at least until the summer of 2020 and that is good news for player and club alike.
