Christian Eriksen has taken to social media to express his honour at captaining Spurs in yesterday’s clash with Atletico Madrid.
The Dane led Tottenham out against the Champions League finalists in the second of their International Champions Cup games in Melbourne this week.

A youthful Spurs team impressed despite a narrow one-nil defeat, and Eriksen posted this message on Instagram after the game:
The 24-year old looked slightly rusty in his first pre-season appearance, with his usual trustworthiness in possession lacking somewhat.
His undoubted ability still shone through in flashes however and his presence alongside that of Erik Lamela’s in attack gave Tottenham much more impetus than they showed against Juventus on Tuesday.

Summer signing Vincent Janssen benefited from having those two supporting him – instead of the ineffective Nacer Chadli and Heung-Min Son – and he showed glimpses of why Spurs splashed the cash for his signature.

Spurs fans will be concerned by recent reports – by the likes of the London Evening Standard – that claim Eriksen has rejected the club’s latest contract offer and will hope Daniel Levy gets out the chequebook quickly to secure one of Mauricio Pochettino’s key men.
