Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League title hopes are virtually over after losing 1-0 to London rivals West Ham United on Friday evening.
Spurs went into the game having won each of their previous nine Premier League games, and were in buoyant mood having beaten Arsenal 2-0 last weekend, guaranteeing that they will finish above the Gunners for the first time in over 20 years.
Given that West Ham had won just one in 11 before Friday’s clash, Spurs were expected to continue their push for the Premier League title, but they missed the chance to close the gap to league leaders Chelsea to just one point.
Tottenham were lacklustre throughout at the London Stadium, and after a number of scares in front of their own goal, they finally fell behind in the second half as Manuel Lanzini smashed home from close range after Spurs had failed to clear their lines.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men attempted to get back into the game, but struggled to lay a glove on a resilient West Ham side, who managed to pick up a vital victory – and surely condemn Spurs to second place.
Chelsea play twice before Spurs kick another ball, and two wins for the Blues will seal the title, with Tottenham’s hopes virtually over after Friday’s defeat.

On Saturday morning, Spurs playmaker Christian Eriksen took to Twitter to offer his reaction on the game, having played his part in what was a frustrating evening for Tottenham.
The Dane noted that it was not the result Tottenham wanted, but noted that Spurs still have a lot to play for in their final three games of the Premier League season.
